Prof. Herbst’s academic work brings together scholarship, teaching, and public engagement.

This section highlights that work through scholarship, talks, teacher trainings, and  experiential programs., with particular emphasis on creating opportunities for learning both within and beyond the traditional classroom.

He also teaches beyond the university, serving adults in a community education program and incarcerated men in a California State Prison.
