versailles-0141.jpgProf. Herbst specializes in creating and leading curricular and co-curricular experiential programs for students in both domestic and international settings.  He was an inaugural faculty member of UC San Diego’s Global Seminars in 2008 and has led 12 programs, which have taken place in: France (2008), Turkey (2009 – 2012), England (2013), Thailand & Cambodia (2014), New Zealand (2017), Italy (2018), Australia (2019), Santa Cruz domestic program (2022), and Italy (2023).  His programs in Japan (2020) and New York City (2021) were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

He has led four other international programs Two Intercultural Service Programs in Turkey for undergraduate students (2013, 2014) and two National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institutes in Turkey for secondary education teachers (2013, 2015).

UC San Diego offers a wide range of study abroad opportunities for students across the globe, wherever you may find interest.   These include semester-long, year-long, and  summer programs.  One option among the summer programs are Global Seminars. Global Seminars are 5-week, 8-unit, 2-course faculty-led programs with ~25 students.
