World Wisdom Traditions

zhuangThis 4-unit course offers an inquiry on wisdom traditions that emerged and developed in antiquity.  This examination focuses on their instruction on how best to live, their guidance on one’s obligations and relationship to others, their ideals for participation in community, and their understanding of the human-environmental connection.  In short, this course is a comparative inquiry on the “examined life.”  CLAS121R Wisdom Traditions is open to all students at UC San Diego and to all students at other UC campuses through cross-campus enrollment.     The Spring 2023 course draws on global traditions down to the year 600CE. CLAS121R has weekly assignments, which include reading responses, discussion boards, and comparative analyses.
