MMW121R offers a portrait of formative wisdom traditions that emerged and developed in antiquity. Our examination focuses on their instruction on it what means to be human and how to live well, their guidance on one’s obligations and relationship to others, and their differing ideals for participation in community. In short, this course is a comparative inquiry into “the examined life.” This is the first course in Eleanor Roosevelt College’s two-course graduation requirement sequence for transfer students. An important component of MMW121 is its goal of strengthening university-level critical analysis and writing skills.
CLAS121R Wisdom Traditions is cross-listed with MMW121R and is open to all students at UC San Diego and to all students at other UC campuses through cross-campus enrollment.
