The First Year Experience (FYE) course is a designed for new students at UC San Diego and provides critical skills and valuable resources to facilitate engagement and foster academic success and personal enrichment.

UC San Diego’s Eleanor Roosevelt College invites incoming freshmen to enroll in ERC 1 First Year Experience (FYE) course in Fall 2017 .  ERC1 is a 2-credit course with one hour of faculty-led lecture (Wednesday, 4-5pm) and one hour of student-led discussion section each week. ERC1 will be taught by Matthew Herbst, Faculty Director of the Making of the Modern World Program, and sections will be led by upper-class, undergraduate discussion leaders who have received specialized training. Expected enrollment is 100 students.  There will be an FYE course in each undergraduate college at UC San Diego.

Research indicates that students who complete a First Year Experience course are more likely to engage in collaborative learning activities, interact more frequently and confidently with faculty, and perceive their campus environment as being more supportive.
