MMW Serves is a service experience embedded within the Making of the Modern World general education world history program, combining academic preparation with experiential activity. A specially-designed MMW seminar on Mondays, 3-6pm in Winter term (fulfilling MMW14 or MMW122 requirements) provides the academic preparation. After completion of the 4-credit MMW course in winter, students travel to Catalina Island with UCSD Outback Adventures for Spring Break to work with the Catalina Island Conservancy on environmental projects which protect and restore this fascinating island, while learning about Catalina’s unique ecology and having fun! Deadline: Submit your MMW SERVES APPLICATION to the MMW Office by Fri., Nov. 2 at 4pm. Space is very limited.
Cost: $400.00. There is a Non-Refundable $200.00 deposit due upon your acceptance by Nov. 30. The second Non-Refundable Payment ($200) will be due by Feb 1. This covers transportation from UCSD to Catalina, food, lodging, and outdoor activities over Spring Break 2019.
Preparation: Participation requires successful completion of a special 4-credit MMW14/122 Seminar on Mondays, 3-6pm in Winter. Pre-Requisites: MMW12 & 13; MMW121 for transfer students.
