ENVR140 Wilderness and Human Values.  (4 units)

This course explores historical and cultural perspectives on the human relationship with the natural world, from prehistory to the present, and wrestles with a fundamental question: what is wilderness?  The course traces the many ways wilderness has been conceived and perceived, investigates how humans have interacted with it, and considers how this interaction has been influenced by such factors as class, race, and gender.  What are the cultural, political, and economic ramifications of this interaction and what, we may ask, is the future of wilderness?
